They don't have too many Wal-Mart's in Canada. They have their own line of chain stores and locally owned stores. I realize this thread is in good fun, but I'm going to hope this was not an an attempt at truth. The Canadians did walk ashore on JUNO BEACH on D-day. That's a pretty lame assessment. Not sure if it's arrogance, ignorance or simple jealousy that they made it further inland than any other country on that day. It'd be like saying the Americans had fun scaling walls at Omaha.

It was an attempt @ truth. I am most familiar with southern Ontario Canada around Kitchener. I honestly have seen only a handful of Canadian Wal-Mart's. I'm not saying they don't exist, they are kinda like Bigfoot in my mind.

By the way, you Canadians need to take the lack of Wal-Mart's as a compliment. I hate Wal-Mart.

I just looked up Loblaw. They seem to a wider coverage of services than Wal-Mart. Just what I gleaned.

Of the 4,414 Allied deaths on June 6th, 2,501 were Americans and 1,913 were Allies. Its too bad that due to American Exceptionalism in the school system that many Americans have been conditioned to discredit or discount anything not about their own selves. We can look at the totals from that day and think "sheesh, what a bad day for everyone especially the Americans. We can also feel bad for them, thank them for their sacrifice and even think, "we'd have never done it without them". Canada made it further inland that day and won important battles against different German forces that were paramount to the advancement for Allied forces. Every country was important that day and nobody was "walking onto beaches". They were all landing on heavily fortified beaches and leaving men behind dead. Unfortunately there is a place that looks at it and discredits everyone else's achievements and instead likes the narrative "they'd have never done it without us".

Just for the record on this June 6th 1944, a Canadian army, stormed one of the beaches of Normandy. they went on to liberate most of Holland and then Northern Germany. Americans tend to think of Normandy as an American event-5 beaches-2 American, 2 British and 1 Canadian. A lot of Dutch people were forever grateful to Canada for liberating them from the Nazis. Thanks for posting this, especially recognizing that Americans tend to think of it as an American event. It's pleasing to see people learn the "rest of the story" The dutch shower us with love each year still. America deserves the same for their role. My dad took the time to retype 4 years worth of letters his grandma kept from his father while overseas as a tank operator in WW2. The letters from Holland during that time of liberation are more than interesting.
