Don't add any It's not needed. Parifin wax sticks just fine with out any rosin.

I add about a lima bean sized chunk to my wax kettle. I gather the dry hardened sap from my own pine trees. Works great, no cost.

1oz. rosin to 10lbs. wax is the usual formula.

Yep , about right. It does make wax stick a bit better too.

1oz to 10lbs? Dang, I know I have been over doing it, cause I add about 1 lbs to 8 gal pot. Mine is not pure rosen tho, it is cut back some.

I see those who say no rosen needed. Question is have you ever used rosen in your wax? If you have not, well, never mind, if I have to finish the statement you wouldn't get it any way.

LOL...done it EVERY way..EVEN tried it on the top of water(GAG!!) Been using the rosin/canning wax for 30 years now..NOT problem one.... tried the toilet bowl rings(beezwax) mixed in one year... cost me a TON...had to redo traps..throw away 25lbs of NEW wax... The rosin/canning wax combo works as well as trapping wax and is considerably cheeper. Get the temps right..and the traps come out PERFECT..

I tried rosin once. It won't happen again what a mess. you don't need it.

nothing at all wrong with adding rosen it just adds another step in the process. i quit using it because the wax i get today has parafin added and it works just fine for me. i like to keep it simple. but if you like to use it then by all means do so. the simpler it is the less chance of making a costly mistake imo.

What type of rosen did you try Heavy? PM me your address and I will send you some of what I use. You can see what you think and if you don't want to use it you can toss it.

I agree with TLChic on this one. I also use "wild rosin", and have never used the processed, commercial types, so I don't know about them.

Using wild rosin adds a sheen to the wet traps are they are taken from the waxing pot. As the sheen lessens, the rosin is being used-up, so add some more, usually not as much as you started with.

You may also loose the sheen after adding fresh wax to you pot, and this may require adding some more rosin.

I do not believe that the smell of wild rosin hurts your traps. In fact, in areas of heavy pine growth, it may give you a slight edge.

As with so many other things related to trapping, it probably relates to personal likes & dislikes.

Later,
45/70,
