I drove a garbage truck 10.5 hrs a day for 21 yrs. At age 58 I woke up one morning having brain seizures. They only came along about every 3 weeks and hung around for a couple days, then came back a few weeks later. After running a truck in the ditch twice, I lost my job and was put on disability. If anyone will hire me to drive a truck for them, I'd be glad to work for you. Disability doesn't necessarily mean crippled for life.

Had a buddy got hurt in the mine and took forever to get disability and finally went before a board of some type for a review of sorts and they asked him if he had a job counting boxes coming off an assembly line, couldn't he do that.? To which he replied, maybe so, where is that job? He finally got on and got his back pay with a nice chunk going to his lawyer.

disabled individuals applying for a determination of disability, and disabled individuals who are entitled to child's insurance benefits, shall be promptly referred to the state agency or agencies administering or supervising the administration of the state plan approved under the Vocational Rehabilitation Act for necessary vocational rehabilitation services, to the end that the maximum number of such individuals may be rehabilitated into productive activity.11"

Well there ya go...

It can be a get rich scheme when you get a monthly check to pad your other cash income (unreported) like so many do. Many have worked less than 5 years and are drawing too. I agree, many need it, I would just like to be the person who evaluates them....

See where you're coming from. Used to be able to drive a truck if you could drag yourself into one. Now with this CDL thing, you almost need to be a Navy Seal. After a heart attack they need a $4000.00 stress test and cleared by your heart doctor, before a CDL doctor will look at you.
If you didn't feel good you could stop and take a nap. Now with the electrical log books, they force you to drive like a moron until you get timed out.
If someone puts you in a truck they want you on your A game everyday.
A friend of mine was forced to retire from the gas company at 80 plus years of age. He always worked 2-3 jobs his whole life. Worked the gas company days and would load trucks all night at a local company. Even though they gave him a million dollar check when he retired, he fell into depression because he couldn't find work.
He wanted to work for local farmers but they have changed that also. As one farmer told him that their insurance company would cancel them for having an 80 year old man climbing equipment and working around augers, even though he's done it all his life.
Leo can still out work a 16 year old kid.

Amen to that lumberjack. I have a neighbor who's been drawing for 15 years but he can walk to the top of hump mountain which is 6,000ft elevation and shoot a deer and dragging it off which takes me about 4 hrs but he can't work. Lol

My neighbor is "disabled" and he hunts, traps, rides 4 wheeler, and cuts and sells 75-100 cord of wood a year.

What I usually hear is they say that they have good days and bad days but have too many bad days to try to work. I guess I just see them more on their good days. Each person that gets disability knows whether it is legitimate and has nothing to be ashamed of or, they're beating their way through life with a monthly lie. Just went by a house where three guys were putting on shingles and I suspect two of them are working under the table.

Everybody has good days and bad days.

My dad used to get really ticked off when the pipeliners would draw unemployment and food stamps in the off season and their wives would go grocery shopping in a newer Cadillac.
