We have access to a creek for a hydro generator. The inlet is 6" pvc with several dozen ~3/16ths holes drilled in, which always gets plugged off with debris.
The water is slowed up behind a weir, and the pipe is in the slow moving eddy-like, but lots of debris falls in during freshet and rain storms.
Looking for ideas on maybe better placement, better pre-screening, etc
What works for you?

This won't help with debris falling in but it will with surface materials floating downstream.

Drop a pole or a log upstream of the intake and on a diagonal from the bank out into the current. It will divert a lot of flotsam away from the intake. Probably have to drive a stake to keep the downstream end out towards the center.

I have done this for years with a fishwheel and it really helps

I can see that helping, will remember that if the water flow gets low enough that the intake is near exposed.
Right now it is about 20" under.
A similar concept did come to mind to try, may construct a wall of sorts between the pipe and the main flow, so the intake is further into an eddy area allowing debris to settle out sooner

But generally......................when you put a solid projection into the current it causes deposition of sediment on the downstream or inside of the wall. It may cause more silt to enter your intake
