I am a good friend of Bud Boda’s oldest son, we went to school together. I just reconnected with him lately and he gave me this old picture Bud had from a convention years ago. I think this is an amazing piece of trapping history. I know Bud Boda, Johnny Thorpe, and Russ Carmen. If you can identify anyone else in the picture post it below. Thank you.

I see Ray peterich (last name isn't quite right) guy who came out with the trappers cap...I see Paul Grimshaw.
Jim Helfrich, Neil Olsen, Ray Milligan, and the old guy second row is the one who originally had an article on pegging traps to bed, his name escapes me.

Right now I’m having amnesia and déjà vu at the same time. I think I’ve forgotten this before.

The only one I see is Paul Grimshaw

Josh Phoenix is the tall gentleman with glasses that developed several methods but is known for his trap stabilizing pegs. The well known and highly respected Pete Askins of wood store, is beside Neil Olson. In the top picture Russ Carman is standing behind Neil Olson. Top picture, far left is Norman Grey, an amazing trapper who do did a lot for the Maine trappers.
In front of Norm is one of the guys I miss a lot, the well known Carl Tripp. Carl was an amazing all around trapper that I was friends with and took instructions from on mink and fisher. Carl had me using 120s in cubbies years before I saw it in print. Top picture continued beside Carl is the late Ray Porter. Ray was an awesome guy, well know for making high quality canoe paddles etc. and for his large beaver catches. Next to him was Bud Boda. Behind Bud I believe his Billy Thompson but it could be well know fur buyer, logger and beaver trappers but it could be Helfrich, I cannot tell for sure. The smile tells me it is Thompson. There may be more in the picture that I know but getting older every day, my memory is not what it used to be. I think the gig between Norman Grey and Paul Grimshaw is Don Nicely bit I may be mistaken. I am not sure but the guy with the cowboy hate in the front row kneeling to the right of Buda may be Ivan White. Anyone that knows much about trapping history knows what a legend that Mr. White. I sure would like to have a 1/10 th of his coyote knowledge.

Those were the days. I learned a ton from instructions from Carl, and lots listening and talking to Norman Grey on the telephone over the years.
Thanks for sharing the picture old friend. That was one heck of a convention. Take care John and hope you are doing well. My gosh I am old.

There is a truck in the background that you cant see in pic , i'm gonna say the pic was taken sometime between 1975 and 1980 but i'm not sure. The pieces are starting to come together..Thanks again

Thanks, Mac. I am likely mistaken about Helfrich. This pic was in the trapper mag with names as I recall. Maybe someone could look up that issue?

I am not sure of the date but suspect between 79 and the very early 80s. I was there.
