Hey folks hope all is well in Trapperman Land!
I haven't visited in awhile, I'm knee deep in building a 7x16 cargo trailer
converting it into an off grid stand alone camping system.
1,500 watts solar PV on top, shore power, all water systems,
Closed cell spray foam insulation, 9,000 BTU mini-split,
Pretty fun project!
Imma go visit Paul on my way to the Smithsonian! laugh

I have some 330's that have never been wet. I sprayed them down with cooking oil
and left them in the sun it got a pretty good coat on it but it's not that tough.

QUESTION:
Has anyone ever cleaned up traps and then did the same thing to them as
you would a new lodge cast iron skillet? I cure my cast iron until the coating is smooth inside,
That usually takes 4 or 5 layers and 5 hours "cooking" them.
I was wondering if that heat would weaken my springs on my 330's??????
Thanks for the help!

Meanwhile, I'm just cooking my butt off as usual!!!!

How much heat you talking? You could always try it with a Duke first so you ain't ruining a good trap.

Life ain't supposed to be easy.

Probably 375 minimum, I cook my skillets @ 400°.
These traps are old but they have never been set,
springs never set a single time.
I was thinking that if it does have an effect on them,
I have a lot of power to start with, we all know you don't
need that. Charles Dobbins gave me some 330's that I could
set with my hands and they were killing machines.

It's a Pompano, in the Jack family, beach cruiser, surf fishing action, best eating fish there is to many.
Their annual spring run just ended in the Pensacola area, you can still catch a few
but April-May is limit a day territory. I love them.

Benny not sure about the heat seasoning but if you want a blue black color on your traps you can rust blue them real easy

What I do is use an old cooler that I got for free but can be any kind of container that has a good cover, the more airtight the better your results will be

What you well need is

An old cooler

Small glass jar such as a jelly jar ect

Some muratic acid

Procedure is as follows

Loose stack your traps in your container trying to leave some air space between and around them and make sure you leave an open space in the middle

Now carefully pour a couple ounces of the muratic acid into your jelly jar taking proper precautions such as eye protection and wash any splashes off quickly so as not to get burned

Close up your container and leave it alone, I generally leave it a week or so then check it and re-arange as nessesary so that they get full coverage

Your traps should come out with with a nice blueblack color though may have a light coat of brown rust that will boil off or wash of with a good stream of water if you did not have a good airtight seal

Put that beautifully seasoned cast iron pan into the creek and see how it holds up. Proceed from there.
