Great news! I'm a former Oregonian and it's home. Don't live there but I did write a lengthy email when you first posted it a month or so ago writing in my opposition to it. I'm pleasantly surprised it was shot down. LOTS of antis there.

We went through the 24 hours check issue last year the Game and Fish did a great job busting that myth, you might get ahold of our guys and see what they have that might help you guys out.

It was basically shot down because of behind the scenes work. The secretary of state let the commission know that their job is to set bag limits and seasons. Not ban trapping.

BTW, you beaver trappers may be interested to learn that since dam building beaver are easier to catch we have been selectively favoring bank dwelling beaver that don't know how to make dams. I heard that theory pressed by one of the Portland metro area commissioners.

Now go to the commission and try to get back something that was taken away previously or change a poor regulation. Take the offensive and make the anti's play defense for once. Perhaps get rid of the "trap branding" regulation. If all we do is play defense, we are guaranteed to lose. Maybe start working on an initiative amendment to make hunting fishing and trapping a constitutional right. Why in the world would you want to get rid of the trap branding requirement? That would just open the door to poor enforcement and anti groups throwing traps all over to make a media frenzy. At least when there are brands then you can track someone down for unscrupulous trapping, track stolen traps etc. If an unbranded trap is discovered in an illegal scenario it can be chocked up to “well that’s illegal, so don’t blame legal trappers” Also the brand keeps your identity hidden from the whackos instead of having your name on the trap so they can track you down and harass you.

We actually are taking the offensive. I have been privy to some behind the scenes talk but on a public forum I am not going to lay it out at this time.
