I am NOT looking for the Jake/Sterling trap of axes.....but don't want junk either.

Any suggestions on a good axe........largely splitting ash, maple, hornsbeam (maybe!) hickory, etc.

I have a log splitter but like to do some by hand as well.......and the axe I have is hardly the Jake Trap of axes!

Thanks

Fiskars x27. Won't break the bank or the back. Best bang for the buck, hands down.

An axe is the right hand tool to cut wood. It is not the right tool to split wood. A maul is a good hand tool to split wood. If that is what you are looking for check out Fiskars. they have a couple that work well, depending on your needs.

Colins axe makes a maul that is like the Fiscars but costs less. As far as axes go, either council tools or Marbels.

Let's go Brandon

Fiskars make good axes as far as I can tell, we have one, not sure the model #, but it's a solid axe.

This one really surprised me. Looks like a gimmick, but splits like a champ.

Right now I’m having amnesia and déjà vu at the same time. I think I’ve forgotten this before.

Mark, you are going to work harder trying to use an axe vs maul. If you want something close to an axe get a 6 lb maul. Light and easy to use. Unless you are splitting 6 inch and under wood a maul is a lot more efficient. I use an 8lb, and 12 lb mauls . I also have an original Stolz monster maul from the 70's that was my dads. 25 lb beast. Most of my wood is 24" and up so I need my splitter most of the time.

Also Mark if you buy a Fiskar tool you will need a receipt for free replacement. I use my Home Depot card on all my Fiskar tools so they have me on record.

I ran X 27 over with a skidder, broke the handle. I called Fisker and they had me E mail 2 pics, one of broken handle and one of handle sawed off at the head. Within a week I had a coupon for a free replacement, with no receipt at all. Fiskers should have been my choice 30 years ago. Along with a "pickaroon"
