Hey bowhunter-Cornbelt custom applicator here. The best thing I’ve found in agriculture applications at least, is to do a fall spray of 2-4D and Basis Blend which is a residual herbicide. Marestail actually sprouts in the fall and over winters as a very small plant which is the best time to take it out. If you need to do an in season kill, hitting it with 2-4D first and then a week later go back with Liberty(glufosinate) at 32oz/acre and 20 gallon of water per acre should clean it up. You’re right though-that stuff is a bugger!

Add Methlylated Seed oil to your mix as well if crop injury is not of concern.

On railroad we like Hardball, dicamba ,mso. And if late in the year( some vista or Flagstaff same stuff )
But that mix is tough anything remotely like crops we use it because outside of pattern we want nothing but grass.
Mix above is not ag mix.

Dicamba products (Banvel, Clarity, Clarifier, Sterling etc.) have proven pretty effective. Some of the new formulations reduce drift (Volatile movement) pretty good too. I have used Chaparral with satisfactory results when the Masestail is smaller and it is non-restricted. Use a surfactant of sorts for better coverage as suggested by the manufacturer and you should be able to control it. Read the label as the above products will harm or kill many different broadleaf plants........... the mike

Make sure there are no vinyards in the area that you spray these concoctions, or you will pay through the nose. Drift is a huge problem these days.

Crossbow. Been using it for several years now. Will kill lots of stuff. But won't kill clover in your food plot unless you go really heavy.

Used to be a mess of it around here. Then Liberty Link beans came on the market-no more marestail.

Well, maybe I found the answer to why my grapes all died of completely a couple years ago. I live right across a road from a 250 acre field in which the farmer uses herbicides. My grapes were doing fantastic until a couple years ago when they all died of completely. I long suspected herbicides and a wind from the North would have brought it over here easily.
