I might be the only one but I am gearing up for this coming season. I don't have any plan for marketing. I don't have any real plan for what species I'm going to target. What I do know is I have more time off this fall than I have had over the last 10 years and I am going to make it count. My only plan is to trap as long as I can afford to.

The good news is there seems to be more land than I can hit as one guy. I've got permission spanning into three counties already this year and I still have five months to go. The numbers of everything seem to be up. I drive the back roads home every morning and have been seeing multiple animals.

In years past I've always focused on the money making aspect and ran myself ragged while I had time to trap. This year I've decided I am just going to have fun and see what I can pile up. Take out some problem coyotes that I seem to get called out on from time to time. The biggest thing is I'm looking to get my kids out as much as possible this year. I've somewhat neglected time with them over the last few years and it's time to make up for it.

Even enjoying it a guy has to set some goals so I've got to kill more coyotes than I have over the last few years combined...right? Why not!

It's in the back of my mind. I'd have to fly out for a day probably if I did it. We will see what comes to play in the next couple months. I just got a gallon of coyote urine and cat urine from John. Haven't found a product he makes that I don't like and he has a pretty amazing lineup planned again. Cat Creek has become my favorite bait.

Don't neglect the kids. They will grow up and gone before you know it.
I like your pictures, do you always catch critters that are skun out? grin

I've tried to get them out...last couple years have been rougher than normal. We had a monsoon last night might see if the fish bite today.

Yes they usually skin themselves and if I'm lucky they finish themselves too.

I've even got the traps down to setting themselves. It takes real talent.

Just kidding Hern. I have a few pictures of them before I get ahold of them. I really prefer the look of them once they've been skinned and washed up a bit.

I've been getting ready too with the same idea. You are further along on your traps. I started waxing some dirt a couple weeks ago. I sold off a few guns and got a thermal sight for one of my rifles. I have been playing with it and am looking forward to getting to use it this fall and winter. It's a whole different world looking through it. You like those Circle C traps?

My thoughts and feelings as well. Set some traps for everything regardless of the prices. Don't want to get too far out of practice. If anything, it's also a good time to practice new techniques. I am going to work on my foothold/snaring beaver, while still focusing mostly on fox n coyotes. But I'll try to whack a few rats, coons, and otters as well.

You are way ahead of me. My mowing business is crazy busy right now, so not much time for anything else. Sounds like you have a good plan for this fall. Enjoy your time with the kids as before you know it they will be gone away to college. I'm going out to Coyote Days again this year, great line up. I had real good luck with John's Grab and Pull last year, planning on trying some other stuff of his.

I am in the same boat. Been picking up a few new permissions every week. A few more and probably better call it good. Foot traps are in decent shape but need to build a few more snares and extensions and go through my conis as they have been neglected a while. Need a little hot weather and should be able to get my waxed dirt all ready.

Trying to best some of my previous numbers and streamline some of my systems.

Should be fun.

Sounds like you guys are in the same mind frame as me. Larry there’s some coyote cuff 22 in there I’m not a real big fan but I own them so I may as well set them. It’s funny you mention thermals I was looking at a low end one to mount on my .17. I had a guy ride along last year with an expensive one that could see the coons caught in the timber in broad daylight before I could.

I’ve got about 250 lbs of sand with wax waiting for a day it’s warm enough to get the wax to melt. We ended up with 5-7 inches of rain here last night with no end in sight so I might be waiting a while. I got off work at 7 this morning and decided to go chase cats. Had a good bite. Figure you sleep when you’re dead. Just woke up from a nap.

It’s really that yellow. Last fish I thought I had something fun. Ended up being about a 15 lb grass carp. Put those cats to shame on it’s fight.

I somehow missed this comment. Funny thing is beaver seem to be the thing I get asked about the most often. I've always just snared them. I have thoughts of dragging myself out into the water a little bit to get my feet wet so to speak. I can't say that I have intentionally set a foot hold for beaver. That might change this season as that's one of the main things most of the farmers I am on seem to ask about before the season is over.

While I was fishing yesterday I kind of got caught as I was on a bridge and water came over the roads on both sides while I was there. I was enjoying catching fish and waited till it got to be about a foot deep before I figured I better get back through it while I could. There was one lone beaver that kept coming back and forth to the bridge. He looked a little lost he didn't know where to start damming the water back up.
