Have ya attended your free trapper ed classes to learn your laws, offered by your state assn? Have ya joined yer association and their forum to get in that loop? Also a great place to ask for a local mentor to shorten your learning curve. trapper Ed was in with hunters Ed but I didn’t really care I wasn’t in to trapping then

Remember Kentucky jaw size for foothold traps is measured perpendicular to the jaw hinges.

Some 3's are bigger than 4's .As far as 4's being to big,I use a lot of modified no.4 longsprings and they are NOT too big for coyotes. If I had a lot of non targets like coon, especially smaller coon running around Id go.different.Maybe a MB450,something along those lines.

I run some #4s, don't think they are any bigger than my #3 bridger. Never seen the big traps cause any damage. Wonder how many who think big traps are bad for coyotes have ever caught coyotes in big 3s or 4s. If you add an inch to the jaw spread your only grabbing the animal 1/2 inch higher at best. Not big enough difference to have any effect in my opinion.
