If Lincoln was racist, why did he allow the civil war which resulted in the slaves being free? He was never a slave owner, nor did he ever or want to own one and even suggests leaving them alone. While he admits that back in those days, the white man was superior, it was better to leave the them alone.

My feeling is that he was talking to a racist crowd and being the politician (and they do it all the time) he wanted them to hear what they wanted to hear. There are those historians that say he was assassinated because of this.

Some years ago, the Discovery asked people to name who they considered the finest American that ever lived? The first week the top 100 names were listed. You were asked to list your choice of the best 10.

The second week it was narrowed down to 50 people. Viewers were told to list the top 5.

The third week the top 5 finalists were revealed. They were George Washington, Martin Luther King, Ronald Reagan, Abraham Lincoln, and Benjamin Franklin. Viewers were told to pick who they considered the greatest American of all time.

They revealed the overwhelming winner the following week: Abraham Lincoln. The commentators were asked why Lincoln did they suppose? Everyone felt it had to do with the important role he played in the freedom of slaves.

I believe they are pushing it to cause racism, not defeat it. They are going to push it to the point that those that weren’t racist, become racist. The civil war everyone thinks will never happen again, will happen. And racism will just be a small part of it. But, you need something to create a spark.

He definitely was a shrewd politician. Notice he only freed the slaves in another country that he actually had no control over at the time. Re-election ploy.

Didnt black tribes in Africa, Arabs in the middle east, Native Americans in North America, and many other cultures ALL have slaves throughout human history?

Even if people did pay attention in history class, the history presented is either watered down or generalized. Unfortunately, I have learned a lot about the Civil War and the players by independent reading. Winters are long and dark and reading is a fine activity when it is 30 below.
