Systemic racism, what does it look like?

Affirmative action is a fine example.

I keep hearing the term but never WHAT that actually pertains to. I appreciate the post but I don’t think that’s what those using the terminology mean. Give me something you’ve heard or seen that defines the “systemic racism” use.

Back in the 80s I worked for a company building box culverts under highways. A company showed up called Garcia and Chicoine. The only minority company in the business. State law required that these minorities got a certain percent of the bids regardless of competitiveness. They are now an extremely wealthy company.

To be politically correct, I'm sure you have to use white supremacy in the same sentence as systemic racism. However, racism has suddenly done a backflip and whites are now the biggest victim of racism.

I'm trying to understand what they are talking about too. One of my kids tells me there's systematic racism in the justice system. I guess because more blacks are in prison by a large margin.

I can describe it for you as I witnessed it as a teenager 50 years ago. We played a lot of playground basketball, often whites and blacks together. Whoever showed up, we picked up teams and played 2 on 2 or 3 on 3, whatever worked. If it was all white kids we tried to make the teams as equal as possible, but that didn't work if the black kids were there. Then it was the blacks against the whites. The blacks were always the better players and they insisted on playing together. The white kids still wanted to put together teams as even as possible, but we played blacks against whites and took our beatings. That was systemic racism and it was directed at the whites by the blacks. There were not any bad kids among those playing and I still think fondly of the friendships I had with those kids, but there was always a racial undertone that I didn't understand. I wasn't brought up in a family with racial animus but it was obvious they had some so I just let it go.

When my sons black friend lived with different white folks a month at a time because his mom was a piece of poop and drug addict, then went on to graduate HS with honors, a scholarship to college, and drafted to the MLB (minor league)...would that be systematic racism? If so I need to call him and tell him to come get his clothes (that in no way would fit now) and give Mrs.Angie a hug because he hasn’t been around in a while.

I guess I’m missing the story behind it because when I see it, I’m thinking she represents one heck of a cook and good food.

Let’s hear why that is systemic racism.
