I’m a novice at this bee stuff. I checked the hives today and there’s a couple piles on the ground and in a bush nearby. I looked in the hives and looks like there is plenty of room yet. Wondering how to catch them up or if I should? And should I be concerned with existing hives? Is the first year. [Linked Image]

If you find the queen put her in the box and the other bees will file in single file. I’m not joking

Trapping is what built North America, why take that away?

check your hives because there are several other queen chambers being produced in them
get some queen pheromone and put into an empty hive and try to scoop those before she takes flight with them....or it is a 2 mile gonzo trip they take.

IMO---If you have the equipment---Go to each of your hives and get a drawn/semi-drawn frame. Put one frame in each of 2 hive bodies, and some frames w/foundation. If you have any lure, put a dab in each box. Put one hive body right under (up tight) to the swarm in the bush. Leave the top ajar so the bees can enter. The second hive body put right next to the bees on the ground---pick some up and put inside the body. This should get both clusters started into their new home.

Did you see any queen cells in the hives when you checked? Was all the frames drawn out in the boxes? If they are drawing out comb keep giving them boxes to draw out. Keep them busy. If they get full make splits. They want to swarm, and they will if you let them.

There is likely a Queen in each of the piles on the ground, and in the swarm in the bush. put a drawn frame over the clumps . They should move unto the frame . You can then put the frame in a nuc. If you look the may be balled around the queen, possibly killing her. . Cage the queens and put in separate boxes, I start in 2 frame nucs.. old 243

The swarm on the bush is low hanging fruit. Trim up twigs around the cluster, gently clip off branch they’re on. Have a new hive set up, with an empty hive body on top. Lay the swarm in the empty box and close up. You can use a 5, 8 or 10 frame box.

The bees on the ground....might be a queen with clipped wings? Put a 5 frame nuc box in front of them, with some drawn comb. They should march right on in.

Thanks for the info! Was able to get them in a box I made from a couple boxes the frames came in. When I got back with the box they were all on the ground. Found the queen herded her in the box and everyone fallowed. Will do a more thorough inspection on the other hives tomorrow.[Linked Image]
