Completed a short project. It took a little over a week. The guest bedroom was never "finished" from when we bought the house and it's been getting a little embarrassing lately when people stay. I finally couldn't take it anymore and decided to get it straightened out. I don't like the "getto" look. The Amish never painted this room, they only put primer on it. Also, they used this god awful linoleum throughout the house. I still have it in some places but I'm slowly getting rid of it. I also hung new 6 panel oak doors. Anyway, here are a couple before pics: And the final results. No baseboard yet and the trim around the doors and windows is only temporary. I'll be making custom red oak trim for the entire house eventually. .

Is that the natural wood that was under the linoleum or did you lay new flooring? The room is beautiful, how much do you charge per night?

Garry- New flooring. It's a laminate. Looks pretty good. A little too good actually.

I wonder if tap dancers walk into a room, look at the floor, and think, I'd tap that. I wonder about things.....

The Amish builds vary as much as anything. So tearing into things how was the Amish quality of your house? I wouldn't let the Amish build me a tree house knowing what I know now.

That does look great, was it hard putting the floor down? Not hard once you get going. It snaps into place with a little hammer persuasion. Once you get enough down and the weight starts to hold it in place, it goes pretty quickly. I laid 320 Sq/ft in about 9 hours, by myself and I wasn't in a hurry.

Finster,
I would like to suggest a different spieces than red oak for trim.. so much nicer woods to use. Even if you have red oak doors I would use something else. I would suggest cherry, rustic cherry , walnut, rustic walnut. Qtr sawn white oak.
Rustic walnut is really gorgeous Thanks but I'm kind of committed to red oak at this point. I have other custom trim I already made and installed in the house.
