Mississippi legislators on both sides have agreed to change the state flag. I would think that the people should have a say. What do you think?

That decision should definitely go to a referendum vote.

It's not going to a referendum vote. Or rather, if it does, our current flag will not be an option to choose from. The last time the minority wanted to change the flag, which was in 2001, it was put on the ballot and the people chose to keep it by a margin of 2 to 1. The leftists couldn't risk that again, so they targeted big business and college athletics to get them to lean on the politicians of the state, and now they've gone and done it in closed door back room meetings. This whole issue has made me so mad I had to get off all social media besides here for a few days as my anger was getting the better of me.

If the SEC/big business can do this on the flag just think what they could do on guns, religion, trapping, etc.

Personally, I think this needs to be explored in the courts to determine if outside corporations just violated representative government.

Emailed the governor a few hours ago and congratulated him on him and his cronies on their early retirement coming up in their next re election bid. Said the naacp, ncaa and blm don't vote here but the residents do and they have a long memory. I ask him to post the email where he can see it everyday. Said it won't be there long he can take it down in a little over 3 years when he cleans out his office.

Y'all voted these folks in. Not sure what the love affair is with one small part of your flag....a part that represents treason.

That whole treason thing is a recent development. I've had conversations my whole life over the recent unpleasantness and never heard it referred to as treason until recently.
You think that might be planned?
If so, are those using the word being played?

Maybe that flag represents Pride? The pride you get when you fight and survive for 4 years against an advisory that should have beat you in a month.

"In the eyes of the British government, the colonists who supported the Revolutionary War and who were involved in writing the Declaration of Independence were committing treason against Great Britain. Treason is when a person goes against his or her country and causes the country significant harm. "

Uh Oh!

No, it's not a new thing at all. Jefferson Davis was charged with treason after he was captured and was imprisoned for 2 years afterwards. He was never tried because he was pardoned before being brought to trial.

From Wikipedia: Davis was indicted for treason while imprisoned; one of his attorneys was ex-Governor Thomas Pratt of Maryland.[144] There was a great deal of discussion in 1865 about bringing treason trials, especially against Jefferson Davis. While there was no consensus in President Johnson's cabinet to do so, on June 11, 1866 the House of Representatives voted, 105-19, to support such a trial against Davis.

After two years of imprisonment, Davis was released on bail of $100,000, which was posted by prominent citizens including Horace Greeley, Cornelius Vanderbilt and Gerrit Smith. Davis remained under indictment until Andrew Johnson issued on Christmas Day of 1868 a presidential "pardon and amnesty" for the offense of treason to "every person who directly or indirectly participated in the late insurrection or rebellion" and after a federal circuit court on February 15, 1869, dismissed the case against Davis after the government's attorney informed the court that he would no longer continue to prosecute Davis.

It's not so much the flag that has me bugged. It's the circumstances and way it is being done. If during a more normal time without all the threats and lies by outside forces then I don't think it would be a huge deal. But to see a state government not stand up to the left is not acceptable. Like I wrote the governor in my email. "The naacp, ncaa and blm don't vote in Mississippi but the citizens do and they have a long memory". I know for me the flag really isn't the point. So when the socialist don't like something else do the elected officials leave their spine at the door and fold again. They should have had the gumption to tell the whole bunch to PACK SAND and COME GET SOME if they feel that strongly about dictating to a state what to do.
