I just ran out for some beer and a sign at the counter said exact change needed for cash purchases due to the change shortage. What is this? Since when? Has anyone else seen or heard about this?

I have most of it in a bowl on top of the dresser.
Seriously, though, from what I see at DG, they are doing this because the cashiers can't count change back.

I've heard it's from the lack of using cash, due to the Rona.

The bank lobbies are closed and they are not exchanging your piggy bank change for cash dollars.

Several articles and posts on this out there now...and no it's not from a cashier's ability to count it back. grin

Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.

bank lobbies are closed, the treasury has pretty much shut down minting of new coins and the coin processing centers have cut back.

I'm in the Sidney/Bainbridge area. No reason given, just a sign. I used my bank card but thought it was about as crazy as the tp shortage! Makes me wonder what's next! ?

I guess we will all need to barter with Gary and scuba for change soon! Do you guys take .22?

Sorry. Facts are facts. It's 2 guys. One has an enormous bowl on his dresser and the other drinks way too much coffee! They are to blame!

Also got told at Dollar general about the change. The name says it all. They generally only deal in dollars.

A lot of people are using plastic so they don't have to handle change. Many readers now just require you to waive your card, so you touch nothing. Wouldn't this trend free up some change, or does it change out of circulation?
