Harvested my garlic crop today. 175 heads of Montana giant and Russian Red.

Please share your process of growing and harvesting. I have not had much luck with garlic.

I have a patch just for the garlic. I plant it in late September and cover it with straw. And I weed it once in the spring.

Yes both are hardnecks. I don't braid them. Just wait till the stems dry out then cut it off and store them. The Montana giant from burbee seem to grow the best. Have 2 the size of my fist.

I grow the German Reds.Do you use the scapes in salads when you take them off the plant.I scape them out early when they are tender.

I haven't dug mine yet, probably this coming week. I have 90 plants 30 each of Music, Siberian, and Iowa German white. I think it's easy to grow. Start with good seed stock and you will never have to buy any again. Just save the best bulbs to plant, take the best cloves from those and plant them in the fall.
