How do y'all go about prepping for the trapping season?
When do you do it?
How do you do it?
Where do you do it?

How: Dye and spray paint whatever traps need to be and power wash the new ones and make waxed dirt (not all)

This is the first year I am ready for season now. With the stay home order I dyed and waxed all my traps, made my bait, cleaned sorted and organized all of my trapping stuff. All done in my work shop. Normally don't start until August or early September.

Wish I had more time to trap....

I do it little by little throughout the year as a get a bit of the trapping itch so i dont have a overwhelming amount towards the upcoming of season, i have my traps ready to go, wax dirt about 50% of what i need done and i will need some just regular dry dirt for winter that i will get to this month to get it to dry out. getting some finishing touches for new equipment for this year and pretty much ready to go, never want to have to be rustling through bins to get to certain traps i have them wrapped in 6-10 traps a bundle and that way keeps them organized and easy to bring out to the field as well.

Now would be a good time to make waxed dirt.

Summer or anytime before season can be bait catching time. In summer ya can run "trapline" of mouse traps. Mice are perfect bait in a dirt hole. Ya can put out minnow trap(s) & have ziplock bags full of bait. Freeze until ready to use.

I catch mice in my house, and I use em, but I've heard that wild caught mice are better what do you guys think?

as far as minnows go I've never used em for trapping but I use em for pike bait.
