In the same coup? When I was younger I had good luck with chickens. However, I never tried to have chickens and ducks in the same coup. I built a coup for the chickens and thought that the ducks would roosts in there with them. Will they be fine together over the winter? Will they be ok together for about 6 months? Shed is 8' x 10'. We are looking at ~12 chickens and maybe 7 ducks. Might be less chickens. i know we will have some soup.

Big question! Can ducks and chickens house together in the same shed over the winter?

Yes, but the ducks will make mud holes out of any available water.

I had some Ducks once, that was enough!

Like Warrior said, they'll make a big mess of the water and with cold weather that means muddy, crappy ice.

My best solution for mixing ducks and chickens was to have the water supply outside of 2x4 wire so that they could only get their heads through to drink.
A chicken will only go to water to drink-a duck will have ALL the water splashed out and gone 10 minutes after filling and then wonder where it all went until the next filling.

Due to the recent DLM movement, it is now required to provide ducks with the same accommodations that the chicken supremacists have been provided unjustly all these years.

I would use nipple drinkers for your ducks and chickens. It may help pacify the ducks lives matter people. We have some old plasson brand nipples in storage that you are welcome to pick up. I don't want to pay for shipping.

Mine stay in the very same coop. Chickens up top ducks on ground. They figured it all out on their own. Sometimes ducks bully chickens and sometimes it’s the other way around. All of them drink out the same kiddy pool and eat the same feed out the same feeders. Don’t complicate things. Either way, get ducked up.

Thanks for all the replies. Gonna move them into the coup next week. Got a half dozen little ones that we have not let loose yet. Another 4 or 5 that are a little smaller and 8 guineas that just hatched this week. Oh, and the 3 other ducks that are still small. Thinking I should have built a bigger coup. Total of 18 chickens, 7 ducks and 8 guinea fowl.

2 to 3 of the bigger chickens are gonna be food since they are roosters. Gonna keep one since he is real nice. Can't wait for the next adventure!

We are going to incubate some duck eggs. We have not had any yet and we let our chickens range so this will be a learning experience for us. Starting off with some hybrid eggs to see how ducks work out.

No doubt- ducks and geese can somehow take in a 1/4 pound of food and convert it to 2 pounds of nasty. Give them plenty of room I say.

I did the chicken thing from ~12-17. I learned a bunch from it. Now, 20 years later, my wife calls me the chicken whisperer. Go slow and be nice to them. I got one hen that if I turn my back to her when she is on roost she will jump on my shoulder or head. Most of the others I can touch if not pet on the ground. The one rooster I can walk up to and pet and pick up. He is the one that we are gonna keep. He is good with the kids.
