I just wanted to trace my last name. I also did a straight line search on my mothers side. Have a many great grandfather on her side that immigrated in the 1600's from Holland. My name is English in origin. Have direct line relatives that fought in every conflict this country has been in except Grenada.

Parts of my family have been in this county forever others arrived as early as 1557 with a Spanish expedition so here are a lot of story’s but some of the interesting points are things like the first of my family name landed in Brownsville TX in 1860 and was paid to join up with the confederates for him it wasn’t about any kind of ideology for him it was his profession, politely he was a professional soldier some would say mercenary, later he served in the 7th calvery, funny thing is I have 2 different ancestors that served in the 7th one servived because he was on leave and the other was with Reno, one settled in MN the other in WI somehow their grand kids meet and married
My dad and his 5 brothers all served in WW2, 2 of them didn’t make it back ma had 7 brothers who served only 1 made it back, dad was wounded twice, declared dead 3 time twice after his position was overrun and he ended up behind Japanese lines and another because of a mixup in names he died at 55 from service related disability’s
According to my aunt who is really into the ancestry thing there has been someone from my family who has been in every war this country has been in from the revolution on often on both sides

Lots of holes in my history... not real sure on moms side...mostly Dutch and German. Her grandparents were cattle ranchers in Joseph Oregon. Joe and Opal. Opal was half souix. I didn’t know them well, went out to visit many times....but kids didn’t speak unless spoken to. They were Mormon. Dads side I can track by paper back to Tennessee and Georgia.. got my great Grampa’s ticket book and .38, Memphis police. Apparently I have a whole LOTTA family back there I’ve never met. Most I’ve heard are hillbillies with a few learned folk mixed in...explains a lot. My dads parents moved all the way out to Oregon in the 40s to be hillbillies there. Before that I hear we come from Scotland and Russia? Roomers I say.

A good portion of my family came from the area centered around where Georgia, the Carolina's and Tennessee come together. We came to NE Oklahoma about 1838-1839 and have been here ever since. My siblings and I and a few first cousins are the first generation not born and raised in that area.
Have a couple of "locally" famous folks in our lineage but nobody big. The interesting part is that since our recorded history (ca. 1751) my family has served in every conflict, war or "police action", sometimes on the losing side but always for what we believed. Needless to say Memorial Day and Veterans Day are pretty important holidays for me and my family.

The ship my ancestors came over on missed Manhattan Island and ended up landing in Canada somewhere. They came from Holland. My Dad was on a ship headed for Pearl Harbor when the Japanese surrendered.
