I got pictures of a good buck these week. I was wondering how much bigger he will get if any.

It’s not easy to figure out when it even starts I have seen some still with full racks and some sprouting new racks during turkey seasons.
Was born in a Big City Will die in the Country OK with that!

I figure bucks will stop adding length to their tines by the first week of August. After that they put on a bit of mass.
So the buck you’re seeing now will still put on a fair bit of inches.

Good point J Park- he did grow a lot. What we would have to do is adjust the season as you are probably 1000 miles north of where I am. Your late august foliage looks like our June

That's a shooter did you get him? Yes I shot him Sept. 23rd 2018. You might remember a post I made about him back then. Named him Nub’s.

He is a beauty IDC if you are hunting horns or table fare- look at how sleek and healthy he looks.
Now what is that gigantic hole on the shoulder- is that an archery kill?

Ya he had a real nice cape! Just finished getting rid of his summer hair and winter cape starting to come in. Archery kill is right. What you see there is an exit hole out the neck and then an entry hole into the shoulder. He’s mounted now and hanging on my wall!

J Park that is a nice mount- as well as a great rack and super cape, I see the nice rounded edges that any man who can judge meat likes to see before the carcuss is ever broken down. Was he an exceptional one or do all of your deer naturally finish out?
Wannabe- I can see some potential there. I am guessing later this fall or next you will be pleased with the local natives!

I got pictures of a good buck these week. I was wondering how much bigger he will get if any. Cessation of antler growth is controlled by photo-periodism. In essence, the shortening of the length of the day. Usually deer cease antler growth sometime is September, and began hardening of their antler followed by the shedding of their velvet, Most Buck have completed the cycle by late September here in NY. w

Was he an exceptional one or do all of your deer naturally finish out? I don’t know what that means. Are you asking how the meat on him was? If so, he tasted great! He tasted exactly like any yearling or 7 year old buck I’ve ever ate. I can’t tell any difference in taste from any deer I’ve ever shot. Almost every single deer I’ve shot has been during below freezing temps. I can see how driving a buck around in the back of a truck in Texas heat could effect the taste of the meat. But not so sure about here. One guy here tells me he will never shoot a buck again because it tastes like pizz. I bet he had it hanging in his garage for awhile not gutted. Anyone that tells me about deer tasting bad, I always question their handling process. That’s just my take on deer meat.
