With a good comptroller for his business interests and an agent that knows how to have incomes coming in forms other than wages and good buying strategies he will not pay anywhere near close to half of that in taxes. He will pay a lot for sure but not as much as many assume he will. With the right investments now and down the road he can turn much of his income into capital gain income that maxes out at 15%.

Several things can and are happening.
Teams are learning a lot more about how to structure pay or salaries so that caps are not as limiting as it may look.
With the signing of a few very large contracts over time there could be a lowering of the quality of play within the league that does not mean that there will be fewer winners and more losers but that the quality of the play may come down some and or the stability of the upper half of players becomes less
The NFL does have a mechanism that tries to increase some parity. MLB has not got that far yet. The other advantage the NFL has it that the TV revenues are so huge that teams with marginal records still receive considerable revenues.
