Jesus save us all. A millennial sent this to my friend just now, they work in construction (heating and cooling systems):

"Good morning, my girlfriend's pet chicken had an egg stuck in it and died this morning, she is not taking well, I will have to bury it and be here for her. I need to call out, I told dave I'd run late but I cant come in today. This bird is like her daughter."

More:

"She's talking about killing herself, she gave the bird an enema to try and help pass the egg, and it died shortly after, she's blaming herself. I dont even know how to deal with this right now smh. Thanks"

Wow. Tractor supply still has chickens. Older ones are only $1.

Couldn't she just picked up the chicken and dropped it?

Doesn't surprise me, people think dogs and cats are the same as their kids, why not chickens. Easy to see why Peta gets so much traction.

Not sure who’s worse. The girlfriend who’s suicidal over a chicken, the boyfriend who took the day off work to comfort her, or the boss that won’t fire him for that. Lol

Sorry, this isn't about a chicken.

It's about a potential suicide.

Cut the guy a break.

When things calm a bit he can look for stable girlfriend.

People have been trying to get fmla or bereavement leave for pets for a while now. some companies off it but I don't think there's any laws forcing it...yet.

exactly , I like dogs but they are livestock we get attached too

my neighbor supervised a paving crew he had a millennial kid work for him actually a decent worker , kid "rescued" a pit bull and 2 years later it needs like 5K in surgery. kid was looking at going into debt 5K for the surgery with a 50/50 chance it works.
had called off work a time to two to stay with the dog and was talking with my neighbor his boss who is also a pastor so he has some experience in counseling.

what would you do the kid asks , he tells him well I had a cat I really liked but it was old I had had him 15 years and he was in pain and it was an expensive surgery to get maybe 1-2 more years of life for the cat so I took the cat and my shotgun out to the farm and I balled my eyes out then pulled the trigger like a man.

will you financially burden yourself well beyond your means and work for months to pay for a surgery for a dog you saved from the pound , dog got more good years you enjoyed your time with the dog but dogs don't live forever. you have to decide.

I don't see the dog in the kids yard anymore so I guess he figured it out.

I do agree with that , but getting suicidal over a chicken , she needs more help than he can likely give her maybe he can get her into a treatment facility.

I like my chickens and yes, treat them as pets... but she's talking about killing herself? She has a bigger problem than a dead pet chicken, I hope her boyfriend gets her help.

Barn yard "PIMP" taste like chicken. They sell em all day at walmart and no stuck egg or feathers to deal with. Note to self: fry and eat chicken when belly full get new girlfriend.

Most suicidal people refer to "someone else" in trouble and needing help never themselves
