Some years back had a woman in our post office that lived in Kansas City. Got the same reaction from her shipping a pistol for repair. I convinced her to call and check and she finally accepted the package. She finally retired. Woman in there now is a farm girl. Stinky lure and firearms don't bother her at all.

Big difference between UPS and a UPS store had a issue here shipping ammo some UPS stores won’t ship a gun barrel alone some won’t take scopes even. I called UPS and the said it could ship the way I boxed and labeled it, the last thing the local depo guy said if it won’t go you will need to come to pick it up. (60) miles away
Now I ship machine parts it’s a lot easier and a gun is a machine really. LOL

UPS Stores are independently owned and can make their own rules about what they will ship.
I'm surprised you had any issues. I've never had a problem shipping "machine parts" anywhere.

I shipped a AR15 through Fedex with no problems. It was disassembled and as long as it was shipped to a gun manufacturer, there is no problems

I have shipped USPS a few long guns , only FFL get to ship postal handguns
I went in with all the instructions printed out the first time , showed it all to the post master she said ok I want it packaged up and don't tell anyone but me what is in the box it is sporting goods if any one asks.
the other lady at the post office is one of the cops wives that time I was shipping a cap and ball revolver I showed her the print out where it said replica of an antique and that was good
when you ship where ever you go next, tell them it is sporting goods you are not lying and if they ask further about what type of sporting goods you can tell them gun parts it is gun parts even if it is all of them.
when I have needed to ship a handgun back for repair the manufacturer sent a call tag and the fedex guy came to my door and picked up the package.
America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

I shipped a long gun from here to TX one time via another carrier that has a similar acronym. I forgot what the item was called when asked. Good to know that some USPS places will still ship long guns. I think our crew here would do it, I know most of them...

Some of the people that work in them places don't know the shipping rules, next time include the ffl and tell them your shipping machine parts. Voila easy peasy
