Muskrat mink fox coon I see that the CS is easier to bed for fox and coon but why not use a CS for mink and rats too

The #11 Long Spring is an amazing little trap. I've heard of trappers, here on the forum, that have caught and held coyotes in them. I personally wouldn't purposely set one for a coyote but an incidental catch is always welcome. Perfect trap for fox or coon sized animals, and have taken untold numbers of mink and muskrats. Long spring traps are easier to bed SOLIDLY, and are easier for young or 'very old' hands to set. Charlie

Duke 1 1/2 coil really shines In the rat marsh and Is also a good coon trap. And I wouldn't hesitate to use It on the fox line.

Excellent...great way to start. I believe the rest of the guys here would agree....you’ve got to try the different traps sets staking systems etc to get a feel for what works for you in your area. Also try to get another experienced Ohio trapper to take you out on his line to better experience the different systems in use.

Will do. I know this old retired trapper but he’s kinda mean and whiny but I’ll try my luck...

I think if an elephant could get it's toe in an 11 it would hold it. Always stake for the biggest critter you may have in your trap.. Zim

Rob, would you recommend cross staking with rebar or an earth anchor?
Zim Depends. What kind of soil? I think a blue bucket set would be best though. I’ve said too much...

Now there is something you don't see every day.
Mason and any of you other young guys, I would encourage you to try a lot of different kinds of traps during the season and like MChew and some of the others have said you will start developing your own personal preferences as opposed to reading about ours. Of course that is during the season.
Do you know what I did in the off season when I was a young man- I hustled up money to buy new traps and lots of them. 3 coon or one bobcat would pay me as much as an entire load of firewood or a day putting up hay so I was keen to get a lot of them and learn to use them.
