Checked a culvert trap one morning before work in the dark set with a #11,all that was left was a shoulder and paw perfect pad catch, found the rest of him close by in the field after work.Looked like a couple big dogs got him.,they pulled on him so hard they ripped him in too,but the # 11 still held.Thats holding power, also have held several coyote also.

11 on small size on jaw spread, 1.5 coil better. But 11 well hold lot, I use them on hard bed surface. Mainly almost a , concrete culverts for coon, work good there

I liked the little #11 with the stamped double jaws. I have caught several beaver in pockets sets for coons using feed molasses. Just have to be sure that if beaver are in the area to set up drowners accordingly.

I recall years ago on here there was a young trapper, he was adding a second spring to an #0 to make it a double long spring. Once we talked him through the process of adding the extra spring, he doubted it's holding ability. So we had him close it on his finger, lol. He was so mad after he had to wake up his older sister to get it off his finger. laugh

I agree with the others on the holding ability of the #11, I bet if they were the same price as the 1 1/2 coils, many more water trappers would switch. (not all of them!, but many would if they gave them a fair test.)

If you pinch a finger in an 11, you’ll have a nasty time getting out of it. But a finger caught in a 1 1/2 coil will be easier.

Both have their place. The 1 1/2 coil has more jaw space and can take a bigger pan if you want to add one. Spring wise tho, the #11 springs will outlast the 1 1/2 coils by many, many years.

I don't like the small pan size on the #11. I prefer a 1 1/2 sized trap where I can add a larger after market pan. And That makes the 1 1/2 a better mink trap and a better rat trap. A #1.75 or a #2 with the larger pan would even be better.
If you have deep pockets you can go out a buy 40 different traps and different styles and sizes and different trap brands. And you'll end up completely confused with trying to figure out what trap to use.

We all know the holding power of the #11 but there are better traps that will fill more of your needs. For the beginning trapper you can't beat the 1 1/2 coil spring trap. Learn to use that one trap and you will come way out ahead of the game. Having six different trap's In the back of the truck and trying to decide what trap to use at that location Is fools play.
I was never a DBL spring advocate. They are hard to place at blind sets where your are limited as to space. They don't set well on my rat stools. It's a pain to dig a bed for the larger ones In frozen ground. They do bed well but you still have to dig the hole.

I rember that last fall, now that u say that, stand in close knee deep water in cement culvert inside. Had 11s on outside ledge , wire off to cement block, left gauntlet in trap an used feet to set dbl, have gotten caught to many times. Not want get caught in new no.5 coil, I rember last fall get finger caught in a newer 3 coil that I put 4 coils on, clear mud out under pan an between pan an jaw, bare handed. I do that lot after bed trap, kept go at it after catch finger. Caught beaver next day, get whacked by BMI 160 magnum on fingers, stung most , happen more once, 330s are something to be very careful handling, use some but not lot
