Does anyone use one for elk? Just wondering what bullet if so? I’ve got a bunch of options for elk just thinking about trying the 250.

My ma used a savage 99 in 250 savage for just about everything you care to mention including several elk, mountain goats and more deer then you would believe and even a grizzly and while not sure what weight Bullet she used if it was me I would use the heaviest one I could find or reload

I think the twist rate of the rifle would determine what bullet to shoot through it for elk and range that you can effectively and accurately shoot it just guessing I'd say either a 87 , 90 or 100 gr bullet should do the trick.

I wouldn't be afraid to take my .25-06 elk hunting it shoots like a laser for quite a long ways.

used to know a girl that killed her share of elk with a 250 3000. Get close shoot careful and you will get back strap for supper.

^^ this, and back in my Idaho days I saw many elk fall to the 250 with 100 grainers. It's darn near a Roberts which is deadly too. Mild recoil makes the 250 a dream cartridge for many. Anything delivering lead tween 2500-2900 fps, where most bullets are designed to perform, is death on any critter when hit in the vitals.

Thanks guys. I’ve got a Roberts and a 25-06 also. I just bought the 250 Savage in a 700 Classic for my daughter. So twist rate isn’t an issue. Just trying to decide what bullet to load.

My model 70 carbine in 250 really only cares for light bullets. It shoots 100 GR OK but prefers 87 or 90 grain. That said, it would not make my Top 10 list of calibers for elk.

I have nothing clever to put here.
