Anyone have one of these yet??
Man they are horrible.
Wife works in a local ER and took care of 6 patients that were tested. Four came back positive. I developed symptoms on Monday. Fever, achy, Just wanted to sleep. Today I woke up with a screaming fever and bronchitis type of pain in my chest. Called my PCP and they directed me to who I should call for a test. Lady on phone (PA or Nurse practitioner) Took my info down said yup sounds like it. Gave me an order to get a test. Went to testing site and waited in car. Lady came out dressed in a PPR suit and said "Don't pull away or pull this out." I plastered my head against the headrest and waited. She stuck a long q-tip up my nose until they touched my brain. Then kind of swiped it around a bit. Then held it there for about 30 seconds.
The whole time I'm gagging and my eyes are running. Once she pulled it out it took me about 5 minutes before I could drive.

I hope you make a quick recovery.
I just got a text, at 3:58pm today, that my insurance will fully cover tests for Covid-19.
They swabbed Mike Dewine, Ohio's Governor and his wife, live on the radio. I don't like a lot of the decisions our governor has made, but he is a decent human being. He's donating his entire salary, additionally paying in the percentage he asked Ohio state employees to take in a pay cut, plus giving away a lot of his savings. I have no doubt Mike Dewine genuinely cares about making things better for the people of Ohio.

Terrible? = i couldn't see well enough to drive for 5 minutes from my glassy eyes????
lol whut??? Terrible sounds like a pretty good word in your world!
haha i kid i kid...
i would describe my experience the exact same, but would say that it burns like when you get water in your nose, your eyes will well up, and you'll want to blow your nose after it's done. it feels like a light rugburn in your sinuses for a few seconds...
our tests aren't 30 seconds though. i think my protocol was 20 maybe? can't remember, it was a month ago...
we have free testing centres all over our cities here in Ontario Canada.

I agree with the rug burn and wanting to blow your nose after though. my guess is the skill of the q-tipper is the key. a rough nurse will really ruin your day lol maybe i had a nice gentle one.

Had my first test a little over a week ago. Stayed in the car, drive through style. Head tilted back against the head rest and was warned it would burn, likely make my eyes water etc. but the duration was only 5 seconds. The nurse had a nice carside manner and it was really not as bad as I expected it to be as I do not deal with objects in my nose very well.
On the other hand, I can certainly see how a nurse with a bad attitude or having a bad day could make it considerably worse.
Got to have another test this weekend prior to another surgical procedure and hope I do not get a nurse having a bad day.

The test makes no since to me. If it’s “droplets”emitted from your mouth/nose (reason for wearing a mask) why can’t I just spit in a cup and call it good? X2

I asked this question of a local MD who seems to be pretty up on viruses. The stuff resides in the nasal cavity. So for the type of test to actually work well you would have to somehow get it into your nasal cavity then spit it out. There's no guarantee that most people would be able to do that Same way when they do flu swabs or strep swab. They get to where the virus resides.

I don't understand why you would want to get tested.
What if it is positive? So what? What are you going to do differently if this test comes back positive?
What if it is negative? What are you going to do differently if it is negative? Is your illness serious enough that you need a correct diagnosis so you can seek the proper medical treatment for it?
Are you just curious? Will you feel immune to the sickness if you test positive and later recover?
How much confidence do you have in the accuracy and reliability of the tests?

When you go into the hospital....you automatically get tested Yep, any admission or any surgical procedure requires testing. Been tested once and scheduled to be tested again this weekend. No test, no surgery no matter how minor. If test is positive, procedure is delayed and you quarantine until you either require hospitalization (severe cases) or you recover and retest negative.

I've been wondering that myself. Twice I have been told of long lines at some testing areas in Anchorage. I think employers must be mandating it? Businesses that want to avoid being shutdown again have a big incentive to keep infection rates down. A negative test only means you are negative that instant. A positive means you are a loaded gun for some time period. I behave like I'm a loaded gun irregardless.
