"As a graduate student, which types of presentation do you find the most valuable?"

After all, I am in an advanced English program. I just sent an email to the director.

The first seems to ask for an objective answer(s).
Your question calls for the subjective.
That's the diff I see.

types of presentation seems to be grammatically incorrect right off the bat. Types is plural so shouldn't presentation instead be presentations.

I taught composition at a D-1 university for several years... prior to that, I was a newspaper editor, columnist and copy editor. I would have written "What type of presentations are the most valuable..."

Greg, you are right. That's how I'd prefer to see it written.

But I'm mainly interested in whether their version was grammatically improper, not whether it was well written.

"If teaching Standard English was a stretch in 1974, today it might seem hopeless. If a means could be found, it would go a long way to eliminating some of the fault lines within American society. It’s worth reminding ourselves that Standard English isn’t just about preserving an old linguistic status quo. It’s about preserving a continuity with our linguistic past. Language will change, yes, but Standard English changes very slowly indeed. And it is democratic in a high sense: It’s available to everyone who desires to attain it."

That of course....!

But remember my good man, that this is the year 2020. What REALLY matters is how the sentence "makes you feel!"

Anything I can understand is grammatically correct.

Then, again, I am studying conversational Spanish, with absolutely no grammar or spelling

The first question asks for a fact, or facts. The answer would be backed up with references. A graduate level student would be expected to provide references for his/her answer. (Was it ok to use gender specific words?). Your question, James, asks for an opinion. You ask the question like a liberal would, the answer based not on facts but on how you feel about types of presentations.
Remember James, we search for truth, not facts!
I don't see anything wrong with the "grammar" of either sentence. I only have a high school education tho!

"Senior Citizen Tuition Waiver

UAA welcomes senior citizens to its classrooms and waives tuition for those eligible under Board of Regents policy R05.10.080.B. Regular tuition shall be waived for Alaska residents who meet the following criteria: they must be age eligible to receive full (unreduced) social security retirement benefits and they must register on a space available basis. "Space available basis" means when courses can accommodate such students in addition to other enrolled students."

Just a guess! crazy
