Will a standard 20” cable stake hold a coyote?

We have rocky dirt and a bit of clay ground.

Get them down through a foot of frozen ground and they ain't coming up. The cable will break first.

In heavy soils you won't need 20" to hold. My stakes are 18" total - 12" cable and 6" of chain. If I get the 12" of cable in the ground in most places I trap it will take a puller and a lot of grunt to get them back out. Soil here is rocky clay too.

16" of chain with super stakes do OK here.

All I use are 18" wolf fang 1/8" cables. No issues in my very limited experience. In sandy soil I double rebar stake with twin 30" stakes and 20" of chain.

Discussions are great but no substitute for experience. Soils differ greatly- go out and drive your staking system in the ground a few places and see if you can jack them back out.

Then you can also find out what it would / will take to retrieve them after the season.
