What is a ghost gun?

Home made, no serial number, i.e. 3D printed or machined.

A gun they can't trace, bought without paperwork.

Media refers to the guns made with 80% lowers as ghost guns.

I always thought that was funny considering the number of used guns sold though private sale. Serial numbers weren't even required before Oct 1968 so are they all Ghost guns? Apparently grampa's old squirrel gun is a "Ghost" gun.

As far as I know most criminals use untraceable guns. I don't believe all the data bases have ever been all that successful at tracking down shooters.
