Water is about 8+ pounds per gallon dirt is heavier, it sinks in water, so five gallons is going to be more than 40 lbs even figuring the 3-4lbs of wax, which is lighter than water. Just a guess I’d say forty five— fifty lbs. waxed sand heavier still.

You would need to start with courser dirt to allow for breakdown in shipment.

Have at it , i did it for 5 years nobody wanted to pay for it . I charged$ 4.00 a gallon. And swear i was competing with stolen wax and free buckets. I did have a few good customers that would buy it by the 30 gallon barrels. It's all labor , people find that out in a hurry to. If you do decide to make it and sell it, best of luck to you it just didn't work out for me.
Let me sugar coat this

I think that people that use lots of waxed dirt could not afford to buy it at trapping suppliers prices. Maybe it would sell at a much discounted price at conventions, but transportation would become an issue because of the weight of larger volumes.

I made and sold it in the 1990's. Mark June's Freeze-Proof Dirt.
We sold every bag we ever made but it was a different era and trappers were getting after critters to make $$. I would sell any unsold bags I had at the end of our manufacturing season to - Ludy Sheda, Chelsea, Iowa.
I sold it in 3-ply paper bags, sewn at each end. You sell it commercially in plastic bags and mildew we be your #1 enemy.

I sell a little bit. Nothing too crazy. A lot of trappers are looking to do all the small things themselves these days it seems. I am pretty new at it though on the selling side. When December and January come around we will see how much need it out there. I currently market it a $1 a pound to start with small orders.
