I have been retired for over 4 years now and still have the sleeping routine I had when working. I go to bed about 930 and wide awake at 430/500 each day. It doesn't matter if I'm dead tired or not.

I never have to get up at night and sleep straight through till ~430. I sometime wish I could sleep another 1/2 hour or so but not going tp happen.

Do most of you sleep longer then 7 or 8 hours and do you also have that built in time clock?

I have the same routine for the most part since retirement (and giving up daily drinking), maybe a little later going down but I wouldn't want it any other way, love the early morning, I'm productive, have my place to myself, can't think of anything better then being outside and around the shop and garden at dawn having the world come alive around me. Very therapeutic. Sometimes I sneak in a little afternoon couch nap. smile

I've been retired for 7 years. When I worked I went to work usually around 5:00 am. My start time was 7:00 am but I went in early because there was always overtime. I always set 2 alarms, with the alarm clocks on the other side of the room. I despise being late and I wanted to make sure I was up in time. I was always awake before the alarms went off.
I still wake up early. I have no set time to get up but I am always up somewhere between 4 and 5. I don't watch T.V. I do a lot of reading and when I set and read that makes me drowsy. I am usually asleep by 8:30 and sleep until around 4. Sometimes I wake up before 4 but I just don't like getting up before 4:00 am.
I greatly prefer mornings to night. I seem to have all of my energy in the morning.

Oh yeah. I get up at 0430 for work, and 0630 on weekends. If I sleep in, I might make it to 0700. Doesn't matter if I have an alarm clock or not. If I'm still awake at 2200 at night, it's a late night for me.

The last 20 years before I retired, I worked the 2nd shift. So, bedtime was 1:00 - 2:00 A.M. Within a week after retiring in 2003, I was sleeping from 10:00 P.M. to 4:00 or 5:00 A.M. I guess that's my natural rhythm. I get 4 - 6 hrs. nightly and nap from a few minutes to as long as half an hr. daily, and feel well-rested about all the time. I learned in Vietnam to awaken instantly and still do. Most mornings I'm totally awake and outta' bed like I was spring-loaded. LOL!

Have only slept 3 to 4 hours a night since I was a young teen. Been to a couple Drs over the lack of sleep but Ambien used to be their answer but didn't work for me. Now it's all about the melatonin, which hasn't worked either. Come to find out every one is different and that's all my body needs. Tired? Not much. Take advantage of it by pursuing my outdoor endeavors. Hope you all slept well. REM sleep trumps any type of sleep. Have pleasant dreams

Retired now since 2006. It was not too bad the first year. Primarily I had worked second shift for a year (3-11 pm).

I usually go to bed between 11 and 12 pm. Up at 7:30 am or so. Fix some coffee (about 1-11/2 cups). I'm awake 100% then.

Take care of cat and the chickens.

Snowy I've the same sleep routine here as well. Waking up before daylight see's cooler temps. Here in the desert with daytime temps around 110° I drink a gallon of water and more during the day. That volume translates to a few overnight trips to the john. The older I become and from the stories I've heard I'd much rather wake up to relieve the bladder a few times a night than the alternative. The value of retirement is now that I can grab a quick nap during the heat of the day.

I’ve never been one to sleep in. I typically go to bed between 10-11 and am up between 430-5, on the rare occasion I try to sleep in I usually make it to 630 maybe 7

I've been retired a little over 10 years. When I worked I got up @ 6:00 AM for 37 years, the first 8 years of retirement I got up at 6:00 AM. Now days I usually get up at 6 or a little later, but I now have the ability (if you want to call it that) to go back to sleep for an hour or two and sometimes 3. I usually go to bed around 9:30, but I read trapping magazines until I get too sleepy which is usually about a half hour or so.

I got myself a seniors' GPS.
Not only does it tell me how to get to my destination,
it tells me why I wanted to go there.

I have been retired for 22 years. I go to bed around 12 Pm and toss and turn all night. I get very little sleep. Nothing seems to help.

I have worked at a paper mill with rotating shifts for many years. I have acquired the ability to sleep anytime. This was learned out of need as working crazy shifts , you need to catch up on sleep whenever you can.

To all reading this , Google 'Circadian rhythms' . Understanding sleep patterns is very helpful to getting good sleep.

One thing I have learned is to not stress out when you cannot get to sleep and stare at the ceiling all night. Stressing only makes it worse. Your body will regulate it out eventually.

I'm not retired, long way from it, sometimes it takes a d8 to get me up in the morning!

Wish I could sleep more. In bed by 2330 and up about 0545...no alarm needed except when trapping and have to get up about 0400-0415 to check before work. Same on weekends. Some weekends (Friday and/or Saturday nights) I may take a melatonin that will let me sleep until after daylight. Just hate doing it because I wake up groggy.

I go to bed between 1-2am almost every night. Wake up between 8:30-9:30am. No alarm clock. Life is good right now!
