A more elegant solution for the driver is an A frame with a pully on top, the pounder is attached to rope and run through the pully and now you pull and release the rope for the up and down pounder. a pounder with a 1" pipe extension UNDER the pounder lets you pound deeper before you add pipe plus the extension rides inside the well pipe to keep everything straight and together. while pounding you generally "tighten" the pipe into the coupler with a pipe wrench to keep the pipe from loosening in the coupler, everything needs to stay tight, no air leaks allowed.

Once you get to depth, hook up your hand pump to clear the well pipe of sand and dirt., plumb the well to the pump,(shallow well jet pump) don't forget the check valve, and plumb to your pressure tank if using one and plumb to your supply lines..

We have mostly sand and gravel below the top soil and loam , so the well drives pretty easy...most of the time.

If you have water already, you can jet the pipe down , just like jetting a piling for a dock.

This one is a good description. IMHO

So, it 1 1/4 sand point and pipe sufficient for watering grass and garden?? What is the difference if you use 2 inch sand point and pipe?

I have been in on driving sand point wells, and the advice above is all good. When you are adding coupler/pipe to the rig use brush-on pipe dope instead of teflon tape and coat ALL of the threads with it. You really want the insurance of preventing even a tiny air leak that can cause the well to loose prime.....usually at the most maddening times!

5' sections of 1 1/4" pipe is standard here. A lot of the old houses here have their well driven in the basement, they were done by hand, which makes hooking up the pump and plumbing easy, plus it's freeze proof, and gives you about a 7' head start to water, lol

You hook your pully to a floor joist and now your house is the A frame., Well guys won't do that now, and now theres a regulation that the well must be 100' from a cesspool so sometimes it's hard to do that in the basement.
