I'm getting ready to make one myself. Probably 1/2" bar with a 5/8 nut welded on about 3/4" from the bottom to engage the larger notch on the fang. I'll post pics when I get around to building it.
Just happy to be here.

Cold rolled smooth rod 5/8 tapper end a bit,,, cut a slot ,,,,weld a nut on it ,,, pilot hole them they will last a long time cost is whatever your time and material is worth . When shot toose in the scrap metal pile. No sense getting all worried unless you are just going beat on them to start ,,,,I have to pilot hole all wolf fangs anyhow around here . They make better metal I'm sure ,,, lot of great drivers made by a few guys on this site and own one from each guy they have lasted for years great people to deal with .... Imo it's all in what your time is worth if you like to tinker. The hammer drill opened alot ground for me makes life so much better setting easier on tools drill pilot hole change bit put a auger on drill a hole. . All this worth exactly what you payed for it.

Before investing in wolf fang anchors I would suggest you try duckbill anchors. These are my favourite and I absolutely hate wolf fangs.
I also re-use my anchors. Wolf fangs will bend really easy and make it near impossible to use again.

If your bending your driver It's operator error not the drivers fault. You can't hit the driver a glancing blow you need to be directly In line with It when you swing the hammer. I have driven 1000s of the so called wolf fang anchors and have yet to bend my only driver. And the metal Isn't hardened. The stock Is 1/2" stock and my slot has been tooled In too that stock.
You don't want a tight fitting slot you need some space. Since when you drive the anchor the cut out In the anchor will deform and hang up in the slot In your driver.
A bent so called wolf fang can be laid on a piece of steel and with a hammer you can flatten It out and It can be reused.
I guess I don't understand how drilling a pilot hole will help with driving wolf fang anchor. If you use the right sized stock for the driver It will fit the notch In the anchor I don't see any need for a nut being welded on your driver.

Beav do you drive stakes in frozen ground for first 8 or 9inch then use a axe or madam to chop bed ??? Might try a hammer drill out give it try ,,, .you swing a hammer much less in a day. It's not you can't drive thru it but why is my thoughts. And a time saver

That's all I use In the winter when I anchor my CRs. But My anchors are built a bit better then the ones you buy. But you saying you are drilling holes for re bar not wolf fangs once you are having to deal with frozen ground.

Yes sir Beav I might go back to rebar once the coyote market get where disposable stakes get to be to spendy on damage job. Or something really go back and forth on that one.

Since I have a free source I hardly ever try and retrieve a disposable. And I never hook up to one that I left behind. But I do use regular stakes but I gave up on re bar a few years ago and went to 1/2" smooth stakes. Then I started fooling around with 3/4" angle Iron. I place 2 chain links on a 1/2" bolt then I weld the bolt on to the angle iron. It holds a lot better then either smooth rod or re bar. But It's not something I use after the frost goes down. The other problem with It Is you can't hit It and free It up and then spin It out of the ground like smooth rod or re bar.

It seems to just be a bit of metal with a notch I’m gonna make one instead of buying one, I was thinking of getting a metal pole between 3/8 to 5/8” wide what do you think? If anybody here has made one please tell me how. Mason do you have machine shop or Ag classes in your school? If you do it would be a simple matter to get one built that will last. Talk to the instructor of either and I bet they would be glad to help and probably have the round stock you need.

Round stock will work but I would prefer square stock for my driver. You could buy one of those concrete forming stakes and grind or saw a slot in It. I'm betting those stakes would hold up for ever no matter how you beat on them.

Did Mason change his name to "Gone Trappin"? Because that is what it is showing me as the "OP". (?)

I'm using 1/2" pipe 3" long for my EAs. Made a driver out of rebar...we'll see, but works good in the yard!
