It has been a long time coming. I am going into my 4th year, and finally got to get some honey. Last fall, I pulled about 40 pounds and put into the freezer for emergency feed for my bees. I successfully over wintered that hive. I added 2 more this year, as well a caught a swarm. 2 weeks ago, I had a lot of frames of uncapped nectar. I called my mentor, and he came and inspected Friday evening. I pulled 8 frames, to keep the hives from getting honey bound. I was pleasantly surprised.

Looks great. I used to help my grandparents in Texas with their bees. Nothing better than honey from your one hives.

Very nice! We ended up with 8 gallons a few years back but have lost hives each winter. They had plenty of honey to see them through the winter but just didn't make it. Will start some new hives next spring unless a swarm appears soon.

Nice. My bees are packing in the fireweed nectar now. I hope they get some capped soon so I can rob some.

Hodagtrapper do you treat for mites? thats sounds like a mite collapse to me. If they don't starve that's usually the problem if left untreated.

Every year and end up with very low counts going into winter. Believe the issue was more genetics as the bees were from central California and then delivered to northern Wisconsin as package bees with a caged queen. Will purchase my next bee packages from a local producer that overwinters the bees quite successfully.
