What in the world was that cat doing way up there?

What from Christ that soul can sever,
Bound by everlasting bands?
None shall take thee
From the Strength of Israel's hands.

Probably trying to get the squirrel that normally knocks the power out laugh

Mine got knocked out by a squirrel on the transformer by the house a couple of months ago

Definitely no repeat offenders laugh

I have taken a few house cats and several hawks, that have been electrocuted, down off hydro lines. Used to be a lineman. Usually they burn down . That looks like a big cat. old 243

Why would its RR leg be all mangled?

From touching the ground wire (right beside it) burned the hair right off! Last winter I saw a coon hanging in a similar fashion.

Saw a stray cat up on pole like that last winter. Buddy found a bobcat at the bottom of pole a few years ago that must have done something similar. All I can figure is that something 'treed' them and they got into the juice at the top of the pole.

Yeah now that I look closer, and one can conclude that it was using hind legs to climb the pole as well, it looks like a burn mark on the pole where it grounded out on that wire.

My hounds put a coon up a power pole one night. We were about 100 yards from the pole when he reached the top and there was a loud pop and sizzle like very close lightning and a huge ball of fire fell off the pole. When we got there the coon was dead and on fire and none of the dogs wanted anything more to do with him. Put a call in to the electric company and told them what happened and waited around for the lineman to get there. Surprisingly they were not angry with us. The lineman said it was one of the funniest call outs he had ever had.

Saw a squirrel dancing on a transformer years ago, then it exploded.

The reason for chunk gone of kitty’s leg is the voltage going to ground. Looks like 7200 volts judging by the insulator.

Beat me to it. I would say 7200 v also. If you look, you can see a #6 soft drawn copper wire stapled to the pole, sticking out. Old time framing had that wire stapled all the way up, close to the insulator. Original thought was for lightning. Killed many birds and outages. That wire should of been removed, but just had some of the staples removed and bent down. That cat took 7200 volts direct to ground. Amazing how it managed to get it's mouth and paw connected at the same time. Electricity is fast stuff.

^ yeppers. Right leg is where the exit spot was where it had contact with ground wire. If not for that extended ground wire he might have never gotten killed.
Yes, it is glass insulated for 7200.
