This May be my last appearance on here... This is not asking for anything... just the facts.

When I moved from Florida back to Ohio... I did so at the request of my younger brother. It took him 3 years to convince me to do so. He wanted for us to be able hunt, fish and trap together again. In the meantime our mother passed away and he got her house, leaving his older home vacant, but need considerable work. We sign signed an agreement that I had the right to live in the house until I died.

So a year ago Aug he died with cancer and his wife became the owner of the house, I pleaded with her to get a will or to sign a new agreement. She told me she would, but she was thinking about Signing the house over to me, but she needed to talk to her daughters (2) about doing it. Well in March she fell and injured herself and died with in a couple of days. No will ... No Agreement.

Now I have received a letter from the girls attorney that I had 10 days to either decide to buy the house or be evicted. Well most of you know I don't have the money to buy the house, and my credit is not great or even good. The cheapest place in this area to rent is $450 a month, and I am not sure I would care to live in such a place.

So I am boxed in and my future doesn't look good. I haven't fully decided what I am going to do... but options are not good.

Just wanted to thank all of the friends I have made on here, even if I have never met you. I hope you all have a great season this year and every year after. It was good while it lasted.

im sorry to hear this but if you and your brother had a signed agreement until your death , it looks like you still have aright to live there . And how bad for your nieces to have you evicted. they must not have been taught any morals on taking care of family .

Ugh. Good luck with your search. Maybe it doesn't have to be your last appearance on here nor should it be despite your situation. If you still have a phone, we are all more than happy to be your sounding board and sense of sanity in a crazy world. You have a lot of experience we could all garner to learn something from you too.
Good luck and keep us posted. Will be thinking about you and wishing you all the best.

The signed agreement with your brother may cover you still. You should talk to an attorney. The initial consultation should be free. The attorney may be able to get damages from the two terrible daughters too, for not upkeeping the house and malicious torment causing distress.

Garry, keep hold of the original agreement you signed with your brother. That signed agreement was for your future in that house. I don't think it suddenly is void because of your brother's death. I wouldn't leave the house until you can look into this with someone who specializes in estate logistics.

Just remember, you can always get hold of a computer , if you don't have one already , or a laptop and access wifi at any place of business , library, etc., if you don't retain it at your house.

All my best, Garry. Just don't leave your house until you find some good council.

Agreed. Contact an attorney and bring your signed agreement. Don't fall for the 10 day notice but don't delay on your end in contacting a professional for legal advice.

Even a hand scrawled letter showing intent can hold up in a court of law. If you still have the darn thing I think you're golden.

Hang in there friend!

Actor don't move unless forced by a Judge. There was no will, so the girls got to get the house them ownselves first. And a letter from a lawyer means squat... you have a signed agreement and they have nothing... don't move out until bodily removed

In Ohio, a property owner has to give a tenant 30 days minimum, to vacate a property. It can take months for the property owner to get a court order if the tenant doesn't move willingly. Don't let them boss you around. Talk to a lawyer.

We are all rooting for you.

I cant help but agree. 10 days is not acceptable and I doubt anyone but the letter writer thinks so...

Gary, contact your State Attorney Generals office and tell them what is going on, your age, and with all this coronavirus stuff, and see if they will back up that attorney. There was a verbal agreement for you to be their for life. See if the state will do it for free what an attorney will charge you for. You will be out nothing.

There is no will. Ownership of the house isn't decided yet. The 10 day notice is just a bullying tactic. If they can scare you out now it makes they taking possession of the house easier. You have an agreement with the original owner. Whether that agreement is still valid I don't know but an attorney will. You need your own attorney.

Talk to a lawyer.
