Actor, first of all, DO NOT MOVE! At least not right away.

!. In Ohio your landlord is required to give you notice at least 30 days before the periodic rental date. ... The landlord could then file a “Notice to Leave the Premises,” asking that you vacate within three days. If you remain at the property after those three days, the landlord could file an eviction action in court.

This may not apply if you were not actually renting.

2. As mentioned above, it may not be legal for anyone to evict you during the Covid pandemic.

3. Agreements, even hand-written agreements are usually binding in court.

Example: The property I currently live on I rented prior to buying. The owner signed a five year lease with an agreement to sell to me after that period. When the five years were up she informed me that her late husband had hand-signed the back of the deed promising to sell the property back to the original owner for what he had paid for it.

The original owner, a local farmer, found out the current owner was going to sell to me and took her to court. The hand-written agreement was ruled binding and she was forced to sell to him for what they paid in 1969. Real estate prices had shot up during the ensuing 26 years and she had to sell it for far less than market value.

The farmer sold it to me at a price much nearer the market value at that time.

Eh...wot?

Get a lawyer, I think that original agreement is binding on all the heirs/assigns. Will all depend on your states laws.

I agree with everyone else here. Don't go anywhere until the Sheriff shows up to escort you out. At the very least you should be able to buy yourself well over a months' worth of time to find other arrangements. I know you said you don't have much money. Try calling social services and explaining the situation to them and ask if any sort of legal aid is available for you. They have lawyers that work pro-bono in cases like this many times.

^ I second the above statement. It just isn't that easy to kick someone on the street these days. If you have that signed agreement with your brothah will hold a lot of power.

See a lawyer. That's the only good advice I've seen here so far.

You won't get a free one unless you meet the income and asset limits requirements of the pro bono program in your state. Call the state Bar Association to find out about their pro bono program.

That's a crappy situation. I'm glad you have a signed agreement. Get a lawyer.

Praying for you

You need to contact legal counsel, went through something close about two years ago. With no will it goes to probate, that's where the battle with the nieces will be. If it already went to probate and the nieces got the property if may be tough to fight................. Contact legal consel.

Agree with most here, see a lawyer. Ideally you could scrape up the funds to hire one. If not, James is right. Check with the bar association about pro bono options.

What happened to your brother's estate?

Good luck.

Keith is correct, with no will. It will go to probate. Then it will be who has the better lawyer.

Your nieces sound really special. I hope you get this sorted out.

Did you run this by the boss? Be sure it's okay to use the Trapperman name.
