Mulberries have been a bust here this year. Usually the kids gorge themselves for weeks on end, but this year it seems.like all the trees had some unripe berries for a week or two, and then they all disappeared. Hopefully elderberries and wild plums do better.

The bush I have yielded a little over 60 pounds last year.

Keith, have you tried freezing the head?

I have 2 garbage bags of elderberries frozen, on the head, in one of my freezers, but I have not tried to strip them off yet. I heard they are easier to strip that way. They are the only elderberries I have left. We used all the syrup we made. I think we are probably 1 1/2 weeks from enough ripe elderberries to pick here.

I have found that when I drink elderberry syrup, I don't need any allergy medicine.

Trying to beat the bears to the Dew berries, they are starting to ripen now... I usually find a handful then eat them before getting home

I find that the wild blueberries always taste better than store bought ones, but the wild ones around here are always very small & so it takes a while to pick a quart.

There's enough ripe elderberries to pick here now. Today, I picked around 8 pounds of elderberries on the heads.

I have been up on the hill behind the house picking low bush blueberries every morning with the sandhill cranes. They grow right on the tundra and have very sweet/ tart flavor, unlike the tasteless store bought ones.

I made two pies and jam of course and froze six quarts so far. More to get yet.

Just starting to ripen up here. Looks like lots did not grow, too cold summer.
