Looks like I may be working in one or several of the small villages around bristol bay for a month or two. Any insight into the hunting there? I see caribou and moose are allowed, but are the numbers any good?

What villages are a possibility? East side like Naknek or Pilot Point.. or west side such as Dillingham.
What kind of work, if you can divulge that?

How about Pilot Point? Their clinic is unstaffed right now.
And Egigik really needs some who is actually qualified, I could tell you a rather terrifying sorry about medical care there..

Please go, you are needed.

Dean caribou have crashed and seasons are pretty much shut down for large portions of unit 17 in Togiak you will have no season this yr.. For Unit 9 the caribou have been on the ropes for a while now but there is a season. As for moose it depends on where you are looks. It like you are a nonresident so some pretty stringent rules apply on sizes primarily it is 50” or larger or 3-4 brow tines depending on which unit you are hunting with season s running Sept 5-15. You will also need a form of transportation to get out and hunt primarily a boat and motor plus lic fees are $160 plus an additional $650 for caribou and $800 for moose also a lot of the moose hunts are registration only so you will have to get tags in Dillingham or King salmon and go through a nonresident hunter orientation for moose.

Maybe I'll just take my longbow and shoot couple of black bears. I like eating those as much as anything. Would be nice to arrow something a little more exotic

Dean fishing is good if your in clear water a lot if the bay in shore is really muddy but up the rivers and streams is a blast depending on the time of year

Nw they are saying there may be some trouble with the 3 listed villages and they may need to send me to another village. God I hope it's not Kotzebue...

Try to shoot a few wolves while you are in the area. You'll be the village hero if you succeed. Just stay away from their moose, unless you plan on donating most of it.

Dean, Kotz isn't in Bristol Bay but maybe you know that. They have a lot there caribou, some of the states largest shee fish not sure why you would not want to check out Kotz unless you have been there already? Can I ask what kind of work you will be doing?

Medical- now they are saying Sand Point. I guess we'll see. Somebody's having a hard time making up their mind.

On Kotzebue- just looked at it from google earth. Looks like 2 dozen shacks on a spit of sand sticking out into Russian waters- looks pretty desolate and barren. Of course I scouted a chunk of ground today that from google earth looked like a whitetail bonanza. Total flop. Google earth doesn't tell the whole picture

Kotzebue is a pretty big village, over1,000 I think. Only been there twice.

Dillingham, Bethel, Nome, Kotzebue, and Utgiavik (Barrow), are all bigger villages having large airports with direct flights with Alaska Airlines and all of the major cargo airlines from Anchorage, and as a result have cheaper and more commodities. Less expensive groceries and fuel, they have restaurants, mechanic shops, parts stores, snowmachine and boat dealerships. Most villages don't have these.
