I really hoped we would not need to make this announcement, but with all the rules and mandates in place at this time, 8/1/20, the board just could not see a clear path to hosting this years annual convention. We all have our own opinions on what is going on in the state today, but we needed to look at this from the standpoint of being a respected organization, that is catering to the public with this event, and are being scrutinized by the public eye.
The sweepstakes drawing will still be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, September 12th as scheduled. It will be held in a public place for any who want to attend. It may also be broadcast live through a social media platform. Plans are also in the works for an online fund raiser auction. Obviously there will not be as many items as there is at our live auctions, but you will still have the chance to bid on some nice items.
The region meets are also undecided at this time. My hope is that mandates will ease up enough we can hold these without fear. At this time also we do not have permits for the Advanced Trappers Workshops. Even though these are generally small events, and held mostly outside, since we are conducting them on state property, before season, we need a special permit from the ODOW, and at this time they are not allowed to issue a permit for any event. We will proceed as if we will host the workshops, but you will need to make sure you keep in contact with your workshops head instructor.
The OSTA does now have a ZOOM account for hosting virtual meetings. By our By-Laws, the OSTA is required to hold its annual general membership meeting during the convention. The OSTA board has the ability to change the By-Laws, and they were changed to allow for the meeting to be held “virtually” in the event the convention was cancelled for any reason. The meeting will basically be a roll call, approval of last years minutes, then the election. All awards will be delayed until next year, which we already have booked for Crawford County again. With no offices being contested, and our constitution allowing election by acclimation, this can easily be done in a virtual format. If you do want to watch the meeting you will need to contact the OSTA business office with your name and e-mail address, you will be sent a link for the meeting.
For the latest information keep checking the OSTA website, the OSTA E-news and Face Book page. We will also have an updated message on the new convention coordinator phone, the number is located inside the front cover of this issue of the BT
I wish I had better news, everyone stay safe and remain healthy.
