A 6x6. Seeing a wild Wisconsin elk has been a dream come true. 10 years ago it didn't seem like it'd be possible.
The herd is growing.
Wi has a pretty diverse array of wild animals.

Was it the black river herd?
Life sure is tough when you don't learn from the mistakes of others.

Cool isn’t it
We should be getting lottery soon since ours are becoming a nuisance in our mtns.
I’ll never forget watching large Idaho herds migrating in Spring. Like 100-200 head. I was in Cherokee, NC a couole years ago and the elk were running down the main street. Blew my mind.

Keep applying for those tags......I finally drew my last year's bull tag after applying for 35 of 36 years.
Pike River....our elk in the northern Lower Peninsula get wanderlust now and then and turn up in central and southern areas 100 plus miles from the "normal" range.

Didnt know there were elk in the lower peninsula. Crazy how theyre down there but not the UP. Michigan's native Eastern Elk population was nearly 100% a Lower Peninsula population even pre-settlement times. The S.W. part of the U.P. may, or may not, have had them. They were a common beast here until European settlement shot them out. They don't know for sure when that happened, but it was about the time logging kicked into high gear here....the 1870's or possibly as late as the early 1880's. At any rate, when my Great Grandad was born there were still native Elk here....but not for long. The herd we now have is the result of a relocation of a small number of Elk brought here from Yellowstone in 1918. I believe there were 7 animals released. They also released a few in my area around the same time. Those Roscommon Co. Elk did ok until the Great Depression and they were, literally, all eaten. I knew residents that did some of the shooting. One fellow, recently deceased, was a kid of 17 when he ate a 4x4 he shot not far from my home. That was possibly as late as the early 1940's. I never heard of any after that one, except for those from farther north that occasionally wander down. The Moose herd is totally a U.P. deal. The last one reported in the Lower Peninsula was a cow in Cheboygan Co. in 1899.

I put out a trail cam. 'Will see if I can get it on cam. The neighbor tells me it stole his bird feeder the other day and he saw it with it stuck in its rack. They aren't all that afraid of humans.
I didn't hear of someone shooting 2, Sprung.
