as most of us know,,,,the fur market ,,,,,is practically nill to none .......except for a select few items...... but i'm still gonna be stringing steel.....I didn't build up a lifetime of permissions to leave my landowners high n dry.....they have critter issues...regardless of the price of fur. in good times or bad,,,,,,i help em out.
fur market at times,,,,,can be unpredictlble ....in 2 years,,,we could potentiannly see 20 dollar coon again,,,,,,,,i wanna be sure I still have that ground to trap on if it does.....
but I also gotta be out there catching something,,,,,,hearing the clinking of the chain in the predawn darkness,,,then seeing the eyes reflecting back at you........the meat from the beaver, coon and muskrats save lots of much needed dollars as far as groceries go
maybe i'll do some more tanning this year and make a blanket,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,either way.........i'll be out there.

I'm going trappin too. Something tells me I'll be learning a lot about tanning different types of fur this year. Gonna try what Bocos put up on latest tanning thread and who knows might even learn a little bit about sewing them together this winter.

I don't think I'll be trapping this fall. Trapping is a hobby for me and not a business. I don't want to take a chance of catching fox and not being able to let them go. Hopefully 2021 will be different.

With this down market it as it is has opened up some rather large territory for me. I now have an opportunity to see if I can really put the hammer down on some song dogs this fall. I can't begin to tell you guys how excited this old man is for this season!

I've got a couple sweet corn farmers that count on me to take coon off their places. Lots of coon. While I'm in there I always nab a couple yotes and last year one of those two farms produced a nice big tom bobcat for me also. I am one of those guys that can honestly say I don't make squat trapping most years, but as others have mentioned I've worked some of these farms for so many years now and I am not about to let them go by not trapping them. Couple others want me to work predators only. You know how pheasant and deer guys can get. I'm way OK with coyote work on their ground. Anyhoo...ill be out there again and just having fun and learning a little more as I do each season. I get to walk a lot of my ground, take a couple notches off my belt line, and really enjoy nature. Some of the guys on here we send each other texts and pics, keep each other updated on weather, successes, tips, etc. I enjoy hearing how they are doing. They challenge me to be better, work harder, push through when tough stretches hit. I never had a pheasant or fish pay me back a dime and I am not a fan of pheasant for my table. I love fishing but majority of my catches go back except carp which I use for bait in winter. But trapping always paid me something. Trapping also has just been a very important part of my life for so long. My oldest son is planning on running the line during day when im at work and he's home on break from college, he and a couple of his baseball teammates. What better way for them to spend their break together. Pics, memories, outdoors, learning, and having fun. Not every kid around here gets to do that, not a lot of trappers still hitting it hard in winter here either. My boys have ran lines with me since they were old enough to walk. They are much better trappers than I will ever be, and that was always my hope and goal for them. Have fun, get another generation going strong. Go get em! Jim

Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.

After talking to GFW, Greg S. and several others I will not be trapping any coon or other water animals except some rats. All you guys that are trapping better get with your buyer first unless you want to add shipping in with your losses. No one I have talked to will be running routes or buying green or carcass fur.
I talked to a guy who sold some rats to Chinese customers and they have been sitting in a warehouse now for six weeks. There is very few furs being dressed in the US if any. Travel ban in Canada will make it hard to have a sale in Canada.
I think deer hunting and ice fishing will be my calling this fall/ winter.
Trapping to me is like a wife who has been messing around on me the last 5 years but finally split and left me with a handful of bills. I do not wish to kill things for the fun of it. It is not fun to me. LLL

I'll be out there, all season! I'm actually thinking of using nothing but long springs this year. Just for the heck of it.
When life gets me down..... you know hunting/trapping season is closed.
