That’s a nuclear fuel assembly being removed from the reactor core. They glow blue. This is something the Simpsons got wrong.
Every one of those squares you can see at the bottom of that vessel is a fuel assembly composed of a pile of “rods” that contain the actual fuel pellets. Each fuel pellet is about half the size of your pinky and (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman) near equivalent to a rail car of coal. Pretty amazing this technology is over 60 years old....if only we would embrace it. What is your trade in the nukes? I work in engineering.
