I’m having problems on #3 Sleepy Creek coils and some #3 old square jaw Victor coils with the PIT pan sometimes catching between the spring levers and hold them from closing. Anyone else seen this and what was the fix? My initial thought was to grind the edges off the pan a little but that made it worse.

IDK anything about SC coils I only have DLS from them but I did think I had a problem with the Montana coyote specials one time. I was wrong.

Dry firing the pan would sometimes bounce up between the jaws but when there was a foot pushing it down from below no issue at all. Double check by setting your taps off with a broom stick maybe.

You might not have that problem- if so forget everything I typed

Dry firing a trap with a stick or your hand Isn't the same as a animal setting off that trap. I wouldn't be concerned.

It is caued by the trap jumping on closing. If an animals foot is on it it holds it down while the jaws close.

It's more likely caused by way to much pan travel before the trap fires. Allowing the animals foot to be deeper In the trap.
I really don't believe a trap jumps off the ground. A trap has a solid base with no spring action under It to cause It to lift.

Appreciate the discussion....I think there is very little pan travel on these with the coyote proof dogs but I’ll check the eye closure on the other end.
