I found an old trap in my grandfather's barn the other day. He said its been there long as he can remember but said I could have it if I wanted it. Unfortunately it is so worn I can make out any markings on it. Judging by the attached chain, I think it is safe to say it is old. My question is absent any markings, is there a way to date it just based off the old chain? Or is there any other identifier I should be aware of? I got as good as pictures as I could for your reference. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

It looks to be a Newhouse, I would date it to around 1870.
