Squirrel season in Pa. always opened in mid October. By that time, they usually had all the hickory nuts cleaned up. The Game Commission decided to open the season in mid September, starting this season. Should make for some good hunting early on watching a good shag bark.

Also seen one small oak loaded with accorns. They were still small yet but maybe we can have a good crop of them

I went past a wild cherry tree the other day mowing and squirrels were running all over. I shot two last year eating ash seeds and the meat stunk so bad we couldn't eat them. Don't know if it was the ash or something else they were eating. Our season comes in Aug 01 just in time for hickory nuts. Right now my hickory trees have been under water , but when it dries up it will be some clean, quite walking.
