I though the cicadas were going to be very bad this year was the prediction.

I can't even hardly recall hearing one this year.

maybe they were bad elsewhere?

We were covered up with them in 2019 here in western Pa.

I'v seen,/ ,herd worse, but their singing their little hearts out here.

Wisconsins brood isn't till 24 I believe.

This was brood 9 this year. Only covered part of wv, va, nc I think. It was very spotty brood, one place covered up with them and a half mile down the road not one to be seen.

Heard a few of them last week, but they are not driving us nuts like some years.

My dog tried to climb a dogwood tree every night for a week. He hates them.

looks like 1990 ,2007 and 2024 is the closest the map shows to my area in SO WI that fits had them bad right about 1990 my dad was still driving tuck around Walworth county and was talking about the accidents they caused in Lake Geneva so many died in the road it got slippery , I recall quite a few in 2007

I remember being in Chicago land in 2007. At teams it looked like the grass was vibrating when they staryes coming out. You could barely go outside. Women were getting them in their hair.

I hear them scarcely but we have an abundance of cicada killers, so I’m told.

That is a beneficial wasp. catches cicada in mid air. Digs a whole and lays eggs on the dead cicada. I think the wasp is harmless. They will only dig in certain soils.

the use of permethrin lawn treatments has really changed since 2007 I wonder how that will change things ?
